6th Form at Appleby Training & Heritage Centre

Appleby Training and Heritage Centre works with our two local secondary schools; Appleby Grammar School and Kirkby Stephen Grammar School to enhance their sixth form curriculum offering.  Our Centre is able to offer a combination of vocational courses alongside more traditional academic qualifications to enable students to gain qualifications which will further enhance their employability skills and career aspirations.

Some of our qualifications attract UCAS tariff points and are therefore particularly appealing to students who are looking to progress to further and higher education establishments.  Similarly many of our vocational qualifications are highly valued by employers and can help young people secure apprenticeships and full time employment in highly skilled and competitive fields.

The courses we can offer sixth form students are:

Level  2 + 3 Business and Administration

Level 2 + 3 ITQ for IT Users

Level 2 + 3 Motor Vehicle

Level 2 + 3 Engineering

Level 2 Children and Young Persons Workforce

Level 3 Early Years Educator

Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning

Level 3 Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning

A Level Applied Health and Social Care

Many of our past students have gone on to achieve their dreams, Jordan Higgins is working for Aston Martin, Kieran Rooke secured an apprenticeship with  BMW in Carlisle, Jamie Collinson and Andrew Butterworth secured employment with Amey Mouchel, Kieran Kay now works for AST Signs in Penrith, Jamie Richardson works for Metcalfe Plant Hire Ltd in Penrith, Tom Alderson is now an apprentice at Nateby Service Station near Kirkby Stephen  to name but a few.  Students have used our qualifications to help them realise university  ambitions; including successes in recent years Hannah Wallbank is studying to become a midwife at Northumbria University, Georgia Chapman is studying Physical Education and Youth Sport at York St. Johns University with the aim of becoming a PE Teacher, Bethany Handley is studying Disabled Nursing at the University of Cumbria`s Lancaster Campus.

Our Centre aims to work with our local schools to ensure that NO young person is forced to attend an alternative provider. We will do our utmost to help each and every young person reach their own potential.

Parents or prospective students can either contact our Centre for further information, or contact the Heads of Sixth From at the respective secondary schools.
